Phil Collins
The years between 1984 and 1989 were Phil Collins’ most dominant period, as he simultaneously maintained a highly successful solo career and his role as the frontman for the band Genesis. In 1984, he released the hit single “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” from the film Against All Odds, which earned him his first Grammy. The following year, his solo album No Jacket Required became a global sensation, winning the Grammy for Album of the Year and featuring hits like “Sussudio” and “One More Night.” He also performed at both the London and Philadelphia Live Aid concerts in 1985. Collins’ success continued with Genesis’s 1986 album, Invisible Touch, and his own 1989 album, …But Seriously, which included the Grammy-winning “Another Day in Paradise.”
