The Tracks quest
It all started on a Christmas holiday in 1984. I was ten years old and had just gotten my own cassette player. While visiting my cousins, I sat in a corner listening to Swedish radio station P3 when a program began counting down the year’s biggest hits. It was the Trackslistan year-end chart for 1984. I pressed “REC” and discovered that music was something truly awesome. It opened up a new world that has been a huge part of my life ever since. The anticipation for the following weekend, when they would count down the rest of the list, was incredible.

My musical taste has since branched out across many genres and eras. In recent years, I started rediscovering vinyl, and while browsing through record stores, I noticed that these old singles were often inexpensive and largely unappreciated. This realization sparked the idea for this specific collection and for this website.
This site is dedicated to my journey to collect every single song that made it onto the Tracks year-end charts between 1984 and 1989. For the years 1985–1989, my goal is to find all the 7-inch singles from the top 100 lists. Since the show started late in 1984, that year’s list was shorter, with a top 40 format. In total, the collection consists of 540 singles.
I have built an extensive collection, but the search is far from over. As I continue, I will publish new pages on this site, sharing the story of each song and offering unique insights into the music that shaped a generation.
